Biography
VAT IS DAZ?
I'm a 20something art student from the great state of NJ. I'm a combination graphic design/photography major with a minor in art history. I have a strong interest in any subject you can throw at me minus math. I love history, culture, science, technology, religion, the arts, politics, amongst other things.
WHATS MY SIGN?
People always ask me what I consider myself.
I'm too apathetic to be called "Punk", and too squirrely and friendly to be labeled as "Goth", even though people toss me into those catagories.
I like lots of the music from both genres, and dress in all black(I can't help I'm fashion impaired), but I don't consider myself either.
May it also be noted that I don't consider Newfoundgloryish "punk", true punk. To me its pop, plain and simple.
Along a similiar line, anyone who thinks listening to "Holy Wood" 12 times a day makes them goth is in for a rude awakening.
That being said, I am probably more true to the goth and punk idealology than a lot of the people that consider themselves such, even though I don't consider myself either.
People call me a geek cuz I can fix computers, but I can't code for shite.
I often fall into the same crowd as "mallrats", yet I work too much to be considered one.
I am quite straight edge, I don't drink, smoke, etc...
Bottom line: I consider myself an individual, label me as you will, you can't change me.
Scorpio.
WHAT DO I BELIEVE IN?
Freedom, complete and unfettered.
A place where people aren't persecuted for looking, thinking, and feeling different.
A world where people can express themselves and just have a good time.
No Britney, Christina, Justin, or Fred.
Judging people on who they are, not what they are.
A place where "America Likes Bush" does not appear on thong underwear.
For now, caffeine and lots of it.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE(and HATE)?
I love freedom, as previously stated. I don't believe anyone should be emotionally, physically, or mentally imprisoned.
I love information. Along the same lines as freedom, information should be free flowing and unfettered. It's lack of exposure to stimuli that is driving America into the arms of prechewed media, mediocrity, and banality.
I love technology. It opens up so many doors to do so much. Exploration, connection, new forms of expression.
I love creativity and expression. Through creation of art and true expression of one's self, one opens the eyes of the masses to a side of the human condition that is often blurred by the media and those in power.
I love my girlfriend with all my heart, mind, and soul.
I love my friends.......hard.
I hate when technology replaces humans or human contact. Its that train of thought that causes so many interpersonal problems between people.
I hate when orgranized religion replaces personal connection to a higher source. I believe that religion, or lack of religion, is a personal experience and organizing it only corrupts what religion is.
I hate when those in power abuse their power.
Dairy-freeze, here's the flavor of the week band, led by generic singer #25. If I hear another Creed wannabe, im gonna vomit.
I hate fake people.
Bottom line: I love anyone thats true to themselves. I hate those who are fake just to gain power, money, or whatnot.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC/BOOKS/MOVIES DO YOU LIKE?
MUSIC: I like anything good and creative. Anything that expresses a positive message, or a socially-concious message. Anything with good guitars or an upright bass. RETRO! Oldies but goodies. I have a soft spot for horns. And industrial beats. That being said: Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Beck, Cake, Collective Soul, Primus, Los Straightjackets, Mad Sin, Demented Are Go!, Nekromantix, Rev. Horton Heat, Social Distortion, Stray Cats, Brian Setzer Orchestra, The Meteors, Horrorpops, Tiger Army, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Godhead, In Extremo, Jack off Jill, Marilyn Manson, Filter, Rob Zombie, White Zombie, Rage Against the Machine, Type O Negative, Rasputina, Cruxshadows, Switchblade Symphony, Bella Morte, Rosetta Stone, Motorhead, Rage Against the Machine, [Old]Metallica, System of a Down, Apoptgyma Berzerk, Beborn Beton, Haujobb, Dead Can Dance, Funker Vogt, Hocico, Juno Reactor, KMFDM/MDFMK, Nine Inch Nails, Wumpscut, VNV Nation, Voltaire, GWAR, Ministry, Fear Factory, Anthrax, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Squirel Nut Zippers, Richard Cheese, Royal Crown Revue, Lee Press On And the Nails, Dick Dale, The Ventures, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Billy Holiday, AFI, Agnostic Front, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Black Flag, Bouncing Souls, Circle Jerks, The Clash, Cocksparrer, Dead Kennedys, Dropkick Murphys, Real McKenzies, Ducky Boys, Exploited, The Black Keys, Fugazi, Flogging Molly, Rollins Band, Lars Frederikson and The Bastards, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, The Minutemen, Minor Threat, The Misfits, The Ramones, Rancid, Refused, Sex Pistols, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, The Business, Casualties, The Damned, The Distillers, Tsunami Bomb, The Vandals, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Sublime, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, No Doubt, Op Ivy, Pietasters, SGR, Specials, Slackers, Massive Attack, Prodigy, Propellerheads. That's right folks, you saw GWAR right on top of Glenn Miller, I'm f'd up.
BOOKS: I like sci-fi, fantasy, horror, historical fiction. Anything well written. Poetry's good. Poe, Byron, Huxley, Tolkein, Lovecraft, Shakespeare. I know, staples, nothing unique. I'm not a big reader, so there.
MOVIES: I like movies along the same lines as the books I like(see above). Old movies, horror or otherwise, rock. New movies with explosions, gratuitious nudity, and fast cars are the bane of my existance. I have a newfound passion for the more intellectual flicks, such as "Bubble Boy", and "The New Guy". Monty Python kicks.
ART: I like the ultra-realistic, and the ultra-surreal. I love the Rennaisance artist's attention to detail, anatomy, and science. However, I also love to see the Baconian pope flanked by various meat products. I'M A MEAT POPE RAR! Bacon, Durer, Dali, Magritte anything weird.
EQUIPMENT: >blush< I use mainly Nikon digital(4500, saving for a D70) and 35mm(N80) systems to create my photography. I also love the visceral anti-art of Polaroid images(Daylab, soon to be Propack + 600 Nightcam too). I have currently acquired a Holga 120 camera, which I still have to play with. Film wise, I mainly use Fuji and Ilford products, but cannot deny the usefulness of Kodak films. I shoot traditional black and white, negative, and slide film. Outside of photographic art, I use pen and ink(Micron pens usually) to create traditional drawings. I like charcoal, but have had little luck with it. I just really got into sculpture with my 3d Design Class. I love using resin to cast things. I hate clay, preferring plaster. Electronically, I alter, adjust, and create images with Adobe, Macromedia, Corel, and other products.
